The pace of demographic change and the unanticipated phenomenon of bonus years in the middle of the lifespan have left librarians without a consensus on the appropriate terms for 50+ or midlife adults. ASLAPR’s professional development and funding initiatives, started in 2003 and continuing today, have complemented and extended other projects to improve opportunities for midlife adults in many Arizona institutions. Key components of ASLAPR’s midlife adult initiatives include the following: Leadership. ASLAPR participated in the Maricopa County Commission on Productive Aging (2003) and the Life Options Libraries Training Institute (2004) funded by the Virginia G. 1 ASLAPR was a key collaborator in the design and implementation of these activities, both of which helped stimulate subsequent changes in Arizona libraries’ approaches to older adult services.
